The difference between Page Speed and Site Speed
Page speed and site speed are very different even though they get lumped together. They both impact conversions, User Experience and traffic, and this page speed become a ranking signal while site speed is still a good practice. Here are the differences between the two and how to begin working on both to help improve site performance, organic ranking, and conversions.
What is site speed?
Site speed is the speed at which your site loads as users go through it. From the time the page renders to the click-through and finally users converting in your shopping cart or lead form. The site is about rendering, pre-rendering, and seamlessly guiding people through the various important paths and funnels you define within your site.
What is page speed?
Page speed refers to decreasing the load time of a specific page on your website. It is similar to site speed, but when looking at page speed you focus on specific on-page attributes and optimize their performance. This could be important for rankings because if the user is on a non-internet connected mobile device and the content is equal if one page loads in 10 seconds and the other in, the 5 second load time is the better user experience and therefore should be given the priority and ranking.
Why are website speed optimization services important to website success?

The short answer is that a faster website provides a better user experience, leads to more traffic and conversions, all of which contribute to improved SEO and ranking.
It’s not only what your site visitors want — it’s what Google Algorithm wants.
Google’s main job is to provide users with search results that best fit their queries. Not only do search engines serve pages with content that best fits the user’s query, they also want to display websites that provide a great user experience. And you guessed it: page speed is part of a great user experience.
In an effort to improve user experience on the web, Google has included page speed in their SEO ranking analysis since 2010. In 2020, Google announced that three new user experience metrics known as Core Web Vitals would be included as a ranking factor as part of the Google Page Experience. Google bots perform tests on a website based on those metrics, among others, to determine website speed.
When your site loads slowly, (takes longer than 3 seconds to fully load), customers will become frustrated and leave your website to find one that provides the information they need more quickly.
If customers consistently leave your website, Google will start to notice, and you will see a drop in search engine rankings.
Slow site speed has a substantial impact on bounce rates. A page loading for 7 seconds is likely to have a 32.3% bounce rate. In comparison, a page that loads for 2 seconds can have around a 9.61% bounce rate. This correlation makes it clear why businesses need fast websites. Of course, the website's content and design should excite visitors, but it should also be optimized to be light and fast while providing a fantastic user experience.
The main factors that lead to a slower loading of the website
1. Negligent HTML coding
One surefire way to ensure that your pages will load slowly is by having a negligent HTML code on the backend of your site.
HTML code is what tells your page how to look when users view it on your website. The code is made up of all sorts of tags that tell the page how to work and what to do.
Every page on your website will have a page of code, and the larger and more complex your website is, the more complex your code will be. This is where it becomes easy for your code to become jumbled and negligent.
In order to keep your pages loading quickly, it’s essential to ensure that there are no extra tags and that everything is referenced properly. Otherwise, it will take the server longer to read the code: causing a slow-loading site.
2. Huge, unoptimized graphics
Including graphics on your site is crucial to providing a great user experience. When you offer a whole page of information, for example, it’s important to break up all that information with some images, graphics, or video to ensure that the reader doesn’t get bored.
However, all the media files you can add to your site's pages in terms of graphics and videos can cause it to load slowly.
Huge, high-resolution photos are one of the biggest causes of slow-loading pages.
So how do you ensure that your site provides a great user experience with graphics while keeping page load time fast? Optimize your graphics!
3. Too many redirects
Redirects occur when you want to replace all links to an old webpage with references to a new one. The redirects are bits of code placed within your .htaccess file in the server, and you can create as many as you need when you replace old pages on your site.
However, when you have tons of redirects on the same page, your site takes the time to reference the .htaccess file to find out the new location of where the link is pointing. This is essentially like loading links twice on your page, which ramps up page load time.
4. Server location and performance
One of the easier factors to understand — the farther away from your server, the longer it will take your website to load. That said, it’s important to be mindful of where your server is located. For example, if your business is based in Germany, don’t select a server in Japanese.
In relation to server performance, you want to ensure that you have a high-quality website hosting service. Here’s how it works:
The quality of your server comes down to whether it’s shared or dedicated:
